International Night 2013
Sponsored by 21st Century Afterschool Program
42 students, parents and Cottey College students were lucky enough to attend the supper on Thursday, January 31st. Parents and teachers had prepared food from their heritage which they shared with attendees.
Some of the countries represented by Cottey College students were China, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and South Africa. Each girl told where she was from, what the weather was like and some other interesting facts about their country or their people.
Students and parents were encouraged to play drums and other instruments which the Cottey girls brought with them.
After playing instruments, all were invited to sample the treats that had been brought. Some of the countries were: Norway, Germany, Ireland, France, Poland, Mexico, China and Africa. Everyone went home with a full tummy!
Ms. James’s AfterSchool students, with help from Miss Diane, made and painted piñatas for the students to bust. Cole Worsley and Kasey Jones filled them with candy and Curtis Weisner and Joe Clark hung it from the basketball hoop for the kids to “start swinging”. It only took a few swings for the kids to start scrambling for candy.
Thanks to all who participated by bringing food, attending, or helping in any way.
