The Afterschool Program Enjoys Korean Food Tasting
Sooki Fields and her husband came to share their experiences in Korea with the AfterSchool program on May 12, 2014. Sooki is originally from Korea, came to the United States to attend college and decided to stay. She has family still in Korea and plans on going to visit this summer.
Larry, her husband, brought pictures to show to the students and shared many of his insights into the culture and lifestyles. He told stories of when they went to visit of their buildings and culture.
Sooki made “sticky” rice and marinated chicken (similar to Teriyaki chicken) for the students to create their own lettuce wraps. There were two kinds of sauce, bean paste or spicy, to add to your wrap. Then you put a spoonful of rice and chicken on the lettuce leaf then swirled it together and popped it into your mouth. Yummy! She had also de-seeded cucumbers and cleaned them. Then she cut them into ¼ inch slices and added sesame seed oil, rice wine vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper and hot paprika then stirred.
The students believed it was one of the better meals we have had this year. Then Larry gave each of the students a pack of M & M’s.
