Sheldon students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades are eligible to join the Sheldon Middle Level FBLA Organization. This year five Sheldon students chose to be a member of the Sheldon Middle Level FBLA.

In this organization, the students practice their typing skills, computer skills, and compete in the Junior Varsity LifeSmarts On-line competition. They stay for practice on Thursday’s after school until 4 p.m. with their adviser, Mrs. Christy Lockard, learning about the different areas that are tested in the LifeSmarts Competition.

In the Junior Varsity LifeSmarts Competition areas studied and tested are Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, the Environment, Health and Safety, Personal Finance, and Technology. The first round of testing is done individually on-line, then the team member’s scores are averaged and the top nine teams in the State of Missouri were selected for in-person state competition. Sheldon’s Middle Level FBLA members have been practicing all year and completed their individual on-line competitions at the end of January. We were then notified by the State LifeSmarts that our team score was one of the top nine scores in the state.

Therefore, the Sheldon Middle Level FBLA LifeSmarts Team will travel to Jefferson City, Missouri on Tuesday, February 24 for state competition. The students making up the Sheldon Middle Level FBLA LifeSmarts Team are: Meckinize McCartney-7th grade, Tori McClure-6th grade, Kayden Cox-6th grade, Isaac Hall-6th grade, and Shyler Middleton-6th grade.

At the State LifeSmarts Competition there are different types of testing in the rounds held at state such as: Team Questions, Team-Plus Questions, and Challenge Questions. The Sheldon Middle Level FBLA LifeSmarts team members will be competing against other students from Aurora Junior High, Couch Junior High, Bourbon Middle School, Blair Oaks Middle School, Linn Junior High, Keytesville Junior High, Oak Grove Middle School, and Pleasant Hill Middle School.

Mrs. Lockard would like to thank the parents of the Middle Level FBLA members listed above for allowing them to be an active member in the group.

Each member is looking forward to competing at the state level next week but is also a little nervous about this new endeavor they have taken on. Best wishes to the Sheldon Middle Level LifeSmarts team.
