Sheldon is planning a science fair on February 26, 2016.  All students enrolled in seventh through tenth grade science classes are required to participate.  Biology II, Chemistry, and other secondary students not currently enrolled in a science class may also participate on a voluntary basis. See Ms. Shorter for a packet. MOST of this project will be completed at home and is worth 150 total points. Students are required to prepare individual projects that encourage investigations using scientific thought processes and scientific inquiry.  For Rules for science projects check the web site at http://www.sciserv.org/isef/rules/. Qualifying students may qualify for Ballard District Science fair on March 10, 2016. Qualifying students may attend the Missouri Southern Regional Science Fair on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.  Certain forms are required to be included in this science fair.  Protocol forms have to be approved by Ms Shorter January 15, 2015 for the MSRSF.  IRB forms are required for projects using a

person, i.e. for a survey.  SRB forms are required for projects involving vertebrates, pathogens, etc.  These projects need pre-approval by the January 15th deadline.  If you need more information, the MSRSF web site is www.msrsf.org. All experiments are at the cost of parent/guardian,  please approve your child’s project asap. Parents are asked to allow students to assume as much responsibility for the project as possible. Please, provide support, offer advice when necessary, help with expenses for the project, and provide any needed transportation.  Please supervise the investigation making certain that animals are treated humanely and the investigation is safe.  In addition, you should occasionally check on the progress of the project to insure that it is progressing as scheduled.  Finally, when your child writes the abstract to accompany the project, you may offer to proofread the written abstract or make suggestions for improvement. The packet was handed to students on November 9, 2015 with forms and deadlines included. Some students have already started! They are very excited and so am I!!!! Ms Shorter  [email protected]
